What role will the bag play in your range?
A product your customers buy
A retail bag needs to make sense at its intended selling price. Consider the size, fabric feel, handle length and finish your customer expects, along with the space your artwork needs.
Tell us whether you are planning one core style or several colour and design variations. The quantity of each version matters as much as the total order.
Packaging that carries your identity
For a bag supplied with another product, begin with the packed item. It should be straightforward to insert, remove and present, with suitable room around the contents.
Include any box, insert or accessory in the measurements. A pouch that fits the product alone may not accommodate the complete retail pack.
A branded addition to a collection or promotion
Gift-with-purchase bags and limited releases need to work within a wider budget and launch schedule. Share the planned use, expected quantity and required arrival date so these can be considered alongside the design.
How custom does
it need to be?
Private-label enquiries can involve very different amounts of development. A clear brief helps establish which approach suits yours.
An existing bag style with your branding
Whether the size, material and construction already meet your needs, and which print or label options are suitable.
A familiar shape with specific changes
The dimensions, handle arrangement, opening or finish that needs adjusting.
A bag designed around your product
The complete contents, intended customer experience, construction priorities and reference samples.
For straightforward branding on a standard bag, explore our custom bag printing options. For a different construction, provide the changes with your private-label enquiry so they can be assessed together.
Define the details that make the bag yours
The shape and usable space
Supply the finished dimensions you have in mind and explain what the bag must hold. If it will carry a boxed product, allow the actual packed dimensions to lead the discussion.
The material and finish
Describe the look and feel you want, including any fabric preference. If you are considering cotton, canvas or jute, tell us what matters most to your product: appearance, structure, handling or price. We’ll assess suitable options for the brief.
Your branding
Share your logo, artwork and intended placement, along with requirements for labels, tags or other branded details. Identify the elements that are essential to your brand and those where you would welcome alternatives.
How it will be carried and closed
Explain how your customer will use the finished bag. Think about whether it needs to sit over a shoulder, be carried by hand or close around the product. These decisions affect the overall design and usable space.
The design and the
commercial brief.
An effective production brief connects the product design with the order you actually need to place.
Quantity by version
Provide the intended number of bags for each size, colour or artwork variation. This allows the order requirements to be assessed more accurately than a single combined total.
Target budget
Share an approximate budget per bag, if you have one, and whether it needs to include branding and freight. Identify the details you are willing to adjust if the initial specification exceeds that budget.
Launch date
Tell us when the bags need to arrive, as well as the planned release date. Artwork decisions, samples where required, production and delivery all need to fit within the schedule.
Packaging and destinations
Explain how the finished bags need to be packed and where they are going. Include any requirements for store deliveries or product presentation so these can be checked during quoting.
Future orders
If this is intended to become an ongoing product, provide an estimate of future demand. Reorder availability and timing should be confirmed for the agreed specification when needed.
From an idea to a defined production brief
Show us the concept
Send a drawing, reference photograph or sample description. Explain the intended use and what you want to retain or change. An early-stage concept is enough to begin a discussion.
Establish the options and order requirements
The Claytons team will assess the design, quantity and branding needs. We’ll identify the details required for a quote, including any material or construction choices still to be made.
Check the proposed result
Discuss the sample or pre-production checks appropriate to your order. Use that stage to resolve product fit, the position of the branding and any essential finishing details before finalising the specification.
Confirm the order and delivery plan
Confirm the agreed design, quantities, artwork, price and expected timing before proceeding. Keep the approved details available for later enquiries, particularly if you plan to reorder the same style.

Why bring your bag project to Claytons?
Experience beyond a single bag style
Our established range includes calico, jute, non-woven and drawstring bags, alongside custom-made projects. That gives you a starting point for discussing both the bag and its intended use.
Local contact with manufacturing relationships
Claytons is a third-generation, family-owned Australian business. Our Coffs Harbour team works with international manufacturing relationships to assess custom supply requirements.
Branding considered with the bag
With in-house screen printing available for selected bags, we can discuss how the artwork and product work together. The appropriate production and decoration approach will be confirmed for your project.

We welcome private-label bag enquiries from businesses in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart and Darwin, and throughout regional Australia.
Your contact team is based in Coffs Harbour, NSW. Include your delivery postcode and launch requirements when discussing the project. For orders intended for several stores or distribution points, let us know the proposed destinations at the quoting stage.
Private label bag manufacturing questions
Have a requirement that is specific to your order? Talk it through with our team.
What is the difference between private-label bags and printed promotional bags?
A private-label project is centred on a bag offered under your own brand, often as a retail product or part of your packaging. It may involve specific construction and finishing requirements. A printed promotional order may use an existing bag with a logo added. Tell us the finished result you need so the suitable approach can be assessed.
Can you add our own labels or tags?
Labels, tags and branded details can be considered within the custom-made service. Provide the type, artwork, placement and quantity you require. The team will confirm the available options for the selected bag and production approach.
Do we need a finished design before contacting Claytons?
No. You can start with a concept, measurements or a reference sample. Explain what the bag will be used for and which details are essential. A more complete brief helps the team assess the project and prepare a useful quotation.
What minimum order quantity applies?
The minimum needs to be confirmed for the design and production requirements. Include quantities for each style and colour when enquiring. Minimums from standard online products should not be assumed to apply to a new custom design.
Can we request a sample before a larger order?
Ask about the checks appropriate to your project. Claytons offers sample or pre-production support for selected bulk and custom orders. Availability, any costs and timing need to be agreed as part of the enquiry.
Are the bags manufactured in Australia?
Claytons has an Australian team and warehouse, with international manufacturing relationships. Selected bag printing is completed in-house. Ask us to confirm the manufacturing origin and decoration arrangements for your particular order.
